Worked up a pause screen. I just have all the specific features in.
Inventory: You can see all the little goodies you've picked up. I'm thinking the items will consist of usables (like health potions?), commodities (for fetch quests), and your equipped charm (purchasable/equippable in the Goodie Shoppe).
Map: Like shown, the map of the world. The world is divided into small areas, and you travel between them on foot. The small green squares are just intersections, and the numbered and skull squares are the actual stages. The map will expand as you open up access to each Land, revealing them as you go, so to keep it all unpredictable. At this point, I'm not going to even tell you all how many Lands there are.
+Also, Knick's house, depicted as the little house square on the far left of the map, is where saving and loading is handled. It might even be the main menu altogether.
Quest Log: Your quest log will store information about each quest you've activated. Quests are mostly optional, but are important for ultimately gaining certain things, but sometimes you'll get items directly from completing certain quests.
Options: Volume, graphics, etc. There's also a fully customizable key configuration menu, in case you hate the default controls. Players who only have a space bar on their keyboard can even play this game! Yeah!
Resume: Luckily, you can also exit the pause menu. That's a feature already coded in.
Exit Level: A quick bail if you're in a stage. When you're not in a stage, I might make it a quick warp back to Knick's house.
